random acts of kindness

November 1, 2012

For those of you who've followed my blog for any length of time, you know that I like to take pictures of the two stuffed geese that sit on some neighborhood shrubs and are dressed according to the holiday. They amuse me. (You can see past photos here, here, and here). Well, a couple of months ago I decided to leave an anonymous note under one of their wings saying that I have appreciated them and their outfit changes and the creativity it brings to my walks. After leaving it and hoping it was received, I forgot about it.

Today, as I was driving down that street, I saw a note sticking out of one of their wings that looked like it was on the same paper I had left a few months earlier. I thought, "Could they have left a note for me?" I pulled over and went up to look at it, and sure enough, the owner had scribbled a note back on the reverse side of my paper saying how my words had made her year! (turns out the person behind it is a woman, otherwise known as "the goose lady.") So fun! And an extra bonus to know the note had been received and appreciated.

Here's a photo of them from today (the white note was for me, the green note for someone else):

  1. Love these geese and that you made the woman's year with your note. I noticed a giraffe head sticking out of the top of a tall shrub the other day and smiled and thought of you. I don't walk past it but I'll have to snap a photo of it and send it to you the next time I drive by.
