I spent this past Sunday afternoon/evening at Dockweiler Beach, a state beach that is adjacent to LAX. The downside of this beach is that it is directly under the take-off path of flights from the airport. The upside is that there are lots of fire pits (and most beaches around here don't have any). The group of people I was with had reserved one and built a huge bonfire as the sun started to go down. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, the kind of food you would expect with a bonfire, and it was quite festive and fun. However, a word of caution regarding Dockweiler at night: apparently, it's not the safest beach, especially once it gets dark. Some friends had given me a ride, and as we left around 10pm and headed back to their car, we found that one of the rear windows had been smashed and the contents of their car had been looted. Fortunately nothing valuable had been left inside, but still, no one likes having their window needlessly broken. So, fyi if you're ever by this beach. Either drive a ghetto car, or leave while the sun's still up. 🙂
