shows

May 3, 2010

I feel very full after this busy weekend and glad to be becoming more and more involved in the art world - it is such a rich place with so much fascinating expression. I was at two very different venues this weekend for group shows I was part of - the Hive Gallery and Viva Art Center. One venue is young, urban, outsider-ish, and has a going-against-the-grain type of feel. The other venue is more refined, older, and feels a bit more traditional and prone to following rules. But there was really fascinating art at both places. I didn't get many good photos at Viva 'cause my camera battery died, but here are a few from the Hive...

Taking in all these expressions leaves me feeling like I've just had a good meal with a lot to digest. And also feeling tired, like when the food coma kicks in. I'm such an internal processor. When I see things, I don't just "see" them - I take them in deeply. I ponder and think and feel, and expend a lot of energy in the process. The more I engage with creativity, the more I understand the richness of it. It is not something that is easy to articulate. It is more something to be experienced.

A bonus at the end of the weekend was visiting my friend Shari's art booth at the Calabasas fine arts festival. The vibrant colors of her newest series were so attractive to me...here's one of my favorites. I told her the colors felt like they were literally drawing me into her tent! Seeing another artist have success and move forward with her dreams is so enjoyable and life-giving. Hoping you all had a good weekend too.
